The Burkburnett Independent School District (ISD) combines the best of urban, suburban and rural living environments. The district covers 189 square miles including Burkburnett, Sheppard AFB, parts of northern Wichita Falls, Cashion and Thornberry, and serves over 3,300 students annually. Burkburnett ISD prides itself in the community involvement from parents and non-parents alike supporting the schools through volunteer programs and active interest in constant improvement. More than 90% of the district graduates go on to colleges and universities across the nation.
Burkburnett offers many opportunities for the whole family. There are Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Club, Girls Softball League, Little League Baseball, the Burkburnett Soccer Association, and Men's Basketball to name a few. Friendship Community Park is a 14 acre park with a covered basketball court, playground for children, picnic pavilions and gazebos. There is also a pond with a fountain and bridge, 1.2 miles of walking & jogging trails and a 3,000 seat amphitheater. Burkburnett is proud of its many parks and recreational areas such as the Permian Park and there is a dedicated skate park. The golfers will enjoy 18 hole municipal River Creek Park Golf Course located 5 miles south of town on FM 1177. The Red River also offers many outdoor activities such as birding which features Bald Eagles, canoeing, fishing and 4-wheeling.
Each October the city comes together for the Friendship Festival with booths featuring jewelry, clothing, technology and specialty products. Children enjoy games, face painting, pony rides and more. Each festival includes musical entertainment in the amphitheater.
